(OTTAWA, ON – October 29, 2026) – The Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI) today responded to the release of The Plan for a Stronger Canada, the Government of Canada's first national security strategy in more than two decades, and the Auditor General's report examining ammunition readiness for the Canadian Armed Forces.
"Taken together, these reports highlight a reality that Canada's defence and security industry has long understood - economic security, national security, defence readiness, and industrial capacity are inseparable," said Christyn Cianfarani, President and CEO of CADSI.
"The national security strategy is explicit that a strong domestic defence industrial base is essential to Canada's sovereignty, resilience, and ability to respond to an increasingly complex security environment. It is an important acknowledgement that strategic autonomy depends not only on military capability, but also on the innovation, workforce, supply chains, and industrial capacity that support it."
Cianfarani noted that the Auditor General's findings on ammunition readiness reinforce many of the same themes.
"The Auditor General's report makes it clear that Canada needs to improve how it plans for, tracks, and manages ammunition, while also rebuilding critical stockpiles. Success will depend on better long-term planning, a clearer understanding and timelines, and a sustained investment in the Canadian companies that help support our defence readiness.”
For Cianfarani, the focus is now on outcomes.
"The opportunity before Canada is significant. What matters now is accountability and execution. Industry will be looking for clear priorities, investment planning, and measurable results to demonstrate that Canada's defence industrial base is being strengthen while ensuring the Canadian Armed Forces receive the capabilities they need."
"Both reports underscore the importance of using defence procurement and investment strategically to strengthen Canada's economy, reinforce our sovereignty, and build the capacity needed to meet future security challenges. Canada's defence industry stands ready to help deliver those outcomes."
