Event Description

The Royal United Services Institute of Nova Scotia invites you to a presentation by Assistant Commissioner Neil O'Rourke, Arctic Region, Canadian Coast Guard, on Monday, 29 November.  Assistant Commissioner O’Rourke will present  "Arctic Region Implementation and Successes." 

Neil O’Rourke has over a decade of service working with the Canadian Coast Guard and was appointed Assistant Commissioner (AC) of the Arctic Region in October, 2018. Prior to that, he served as Senior Director, Safe Shipping and Economic Intelligence for the CCG, and was responsible for the development of national strategies to sustain and transform Coast Guard’s marine navigation programs. AC O’Rourke was also the national lead for Arctic program policy,  the implementation of e-Navigation in Canadian waters, and  served as Councillor with the International Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authority (IALA) on behalf of Canada. AC O’Rourke, originally from Aylmer, QC, is currently based in Yellowknife, NT,

On October 24, 2018, the creation of the stand-alone Arctic Regions for DFO and CCG were announced. Since then, Coast Guard Arctic Region has led the successful standing-up of the Arctic Region. This work and progress to date will be highlighted during this presentation. Tune in to find out more about a unique agency operating in the Canadian Arctic.

The event will start at 1 pm Atlantic/Halifax time, Monday, 29 November, then be followed by Q&A and finish by 3 pm Atlantic/Halifax time.

Registration is required.  There is no fee to attend this event.  To register, email [email protected] by close-of-business Thursday, 25 November.  As the subject line for your registration email, put: RUSI(NS) Distinguished Speaker 29 November 2021 Registration.  In addition to your name, please provide your organization (association, directorate, company or unit).  Participation is limited and later registrants may have to be put on a waiting list.  If after registering your availability changes and you are no longer able to attend, please advise RUSI(NS) as soon as possible so your spot can be re-assigned.

The event will be done by Zoom.  Instructions will be emailed to registrants by end-of-day Friday, 26 November.  If you have not received them by end-of-day 26 November, please check your spam folder and, if necessary, email RUSI(NS).
