New Opportunity: IM IT System Administrator

The Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI) is looking for a highly organized and motivated IM IT System Administrator to join our dynamic team in downtown Ottawa.​​

 

Status: Permanent, Full-Time

Compensation:  $110,000 to $120,000 annually

Your Mission

The Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI) is seeking a proven professional and experienced IM IT Systems Administrator, Information Management & Technology Services, to manage and be responsible for the Association’s broad range of Information Management, Information Technology, Network Communications and Equipment in several environments, including downtown Ottawa office location, remote employee locations and throughout our live business event venues.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dependable Information Management & Technology professional to support a dynamic sector of the Canadian economy. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, hands-on IT professional who takes pride in ensuring stable, secure, and well-supported technology services that enable staff and members to achieve their goals.

As the IT System Administrator, you will manage and maintain the organization's day-to-day IT operations, including the network, servers, desktop environments and communication equipment. The role combines technical expertise with strong budgeting awareness and project management skills to ensure cost-effective system performance and reliable service delivery.

Approximately 70-80% of your time will focus on daily IT operations and user support, with 20-30% dedicated to supporting strategic technology initiatives, coordination with external partners and vendors and contributing to long-term IT planning that advances CADSI’s missions.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The IM IT System Administrator will be responsible for managing this critically important department.

  • Manage and maintain IT infrastructure, including servers, end-users’ devices, network systems and cloud services.
  • Monitor systems and system health, perform regular patching, updates and backups.
  • Provide technical support to staff and troubleshoot hardware, software, VOIP system, printer and network issues.
  • Coordinate with external IT partners and vendors for specialized tasks or troubleshooting
  • Ensure peak performance and security of all information management, information technology and communications (IM IT & C) equipment and services.
  • Maintain documentation for systems, procedures and configurations.
  • All departmental annual budgets and monthly expenses are reported regularly on performance against budget.
  • Identifying IM/ IT & C annual key performance objectives and opportunities, and aligning them with corporate, departmental and membership strategic priorities
  • Assist in planning, organizing, directing and controlling all corporate, departmental or membership IM IT & C projects within budget and schedule.
  • Assist in recommending, procuring and implementing all information technology, information management, website, web-based tools and social media platforms to execute Corporate and Departmental goals and to provide maximum member support and benefits.
  • Possessing a fulsome awareness of Canadian legislation and Industry business standards and practices relating to IT / IM & C operations
  • Event Execution: Pre-event, on-site execution of all event operations, plans and initiatives. Providing support as required to all departments, such as but not limited to: producing and assisting in the production of tradeshows, conferences, meetings, Board Meetings, webinars and interactive telecommunications events.
  • Supporting all CADSI departments as required in achieving corporate objectives
  • Facilitating and promoting a positive, proactive, team player attitude and fostering workplace harmony
  • Recruit, train, coach, onboard colleagues and perform and/or participate in annual performance appraisals
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Experience and Qualifications​

As a creative and resourceful individual, the ideal candidate will have superior knowledge, skills and be able to demonstrate proven capabilities and experiences in successfully managing a high-performing IM/IT & C operation. This individual will possess the following qualifications:

  • University or college graduate in computer sciences, information systems or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience or a related field is an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in IT system administration or related technical role with a demonstrated ability to support and maintain reliable IT operations.
  • Strong knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure, including servers, network systems, phone systems, cybersecurity principles and industry best practices. 
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and frameworks (e.g. NIST, ISO27001).
  • Responsible for internal security hygiene (user access, MFA, endpoint compliance)
  • Hands-on experience building, managing and supporting IT environments including Microsoft and MacOS systems, PCs, laptops, wireless networks, Microsoft 365 and email systems, mobile devices, web environments, and general communication and collaboration tools.
  • Certifications are considered preferred assets:  Microsoft 365 Certified, CompTIA Network+, Security+, ITIL Foundation, or similar.
  • Familiarity with data and reporting tools, CRM and Member Management systems.
  • Excellent and impeccable written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingualism - Use of both official languages is preferred
  • A competent understanding of the defence and security industry is an asset
  • Demonstrate initiative & problem-solving skills while managing a high volume of work and multiple priorities & projects 
  • Experience in managing consultants and service providers would be an asset, including proposal and contract management, SLA Compliance and vendor performance evaluations.
  • High level of interpersonal skills, maturity, adaptable and capable of discreetly handling confidential situations and information
  • Project Management experience and qualifications are considered assets.
  • Interest in developing strategic IT skills and growing into an elevated IT role.
  • Capable of working flexible hours, including evenings and occasionally weekends, to get the job done
