CADSI investing over $100,000 in WiDS to support women in our sector

Ottawa (May 29, 2019) - As part of an ongoing effort to promote the advancement of women in Canada’s defence and security industries, CADSI is proud to announce a new investment in excess of $100,000 in Women in Defence and Security (WiDS).

This three-year investment will allow for the creation of a sustainable link between the two organizations in the form of a permanent, full-time WiDS position based out of CADSI’s offices. This employee will assist in raising awareness of WiDS and will benefit from direct support and access to all CADSI resources.

“I’ve worked in this industry for over two decades now and have come to believe that it takes something special to thrive in it,” said CADSI President and CEO Christyn Cianfarani. “The women in our sector are talented, intelligent, creative, strategic and resilient. We not only want to keep them in our family, we want to grow it.”

CADSI currently serves as a parent organization and strategic partner to WiDS. Since it was founded in 2005, WiDS has grown from a handful of people meeting in downtown Ottawa to more than 2,200 members – men and women – from all levels of Canada’s public and private sectors, industry, military and police organizations.

“This is fantastic news,” said Jana Lee Murray, President of WiDS. “We are absolutely thrilled with this opportunity. This is going to help us move on to the next phase of our program, and we’d like to thank our industry partners who’ve helped us get here.”
