Reliability for 5G, Military Communications, and Other High-Speed Wireless Systems

BURLINGTON, ON (August 18, 2025) - Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) are specialized semiconductor devices designed to operate at microwave and millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies—essential for high-data-rate communications, phased-array antennas, high-frequency sensors and radars, and the mid- to high-band spectrum of 5G cellular networks. While MMICs are monolithic by definition, complex systems such as microwave receivers and transmitters often distribute functions across individual MMICs or dies to optimize performance and material selection.

System reliability hinges on the continuous operation of each circuit—a critical requirement in MMIC-based technologies like high-speed communications, electronic warfare, and satellite systems. In military environments, where components are exposed to humidity, salt, and dust, protecting these circuits is essential to maintain the uninterrupted operation of mission-critical networks.

Systems used in aircraft, satellites, and by personnel often face strict weight constraints. Conformal coatings provide a lightweight, durable alternative to heavy potting compounds, with the added benefit of reworkability for field repairs.

MG Chemicals provides high-performance conformal coatings trusted by manufacturers in the defense sector. Available in multiple chemistries and certified to IPC-CC-830 standards, our coatings help ensure compliance and enhance the reliability of Canada’s military communications systems.
