Silver-Coated Copper Paint Enables Critical EMI Shielding for Deployable Defense Command Centres
Burlington, ON – May 23, 2025
MG Chemicals is proud to announce its 843WBU Water-Based Conductive Coating as a solution for shielding deployable command centers from electromagnetic interference (EMI) within the defense sector.
Deployable command centers—also known as C4ISR rigid wall container systems—serve as centralized hubs for command and control (C2) and situational awareness (SA). These mobile units are equipped with highly sensitive electronics that require protection from both ambient EMI and potential directed energy threats such as intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI) and electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attacks. Shielding against such threats is essential to preserving operational integrity and continuity in critical defense missions.
843WBU offers a practical, high-performance shielding solution for this demanding environment. This highly conductive, one-part coating applies directly to the interior walls of the structure, creating a highly conductive barrier that significantly attenuates EMI across a broad frequency range. Formulated with silver-coated copper particles, 843WBU delivers excellent shielding performance.
Key features of 843WBU:
- Cures in ambient conditions, does not require heat
- Adheres to multiple substrates – wood, drywall, plastic, and metal
- Paintable – can be overcoated with standard architectural paints for improved durability
- Low VOC and no harsh odor – safe for use in enclosed, inhabited environments
- Non-flammable – can be safely stored without threat of igniting
- Easily repairable – damaged areas can be quickly repainted with minimal disruption
Unlike traditional methods such as lining walls with metal or foil, 843WBU offers a practical and scalable approach to shielding without compromising design flexibility. When combined with EMI-blocking gap fillers or gasketing materials, it contributes to a robust defense-in-depth strategy for electromagnetic protection.
Once applied, the coating significantly reduces internal wireless connectivity strength; however, secure communications can be maintained through hardwired systems integrated in the container’s infrastructure.
MG Chemicals is honoured to support defense integrators and allied partners with materials that help protect critical command infrastructure under the most demanding conditions.
