THANK YOU, STEVE, FOR THAT KIND INTRODUCTION. I JUST PASSED MY 43RD BIRTHDAY AND BEING IN A REFLECTIVE MOOD, I WAS THINKING ON THE MANY THINGS THAT I HAVE TRIED TO ACCOMPLISH IN MY CAREER AND FEELING NOT TOO BAD ABOUT MYSELF, BUT I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I’M GLAD TODAY WASN’T MY BIRTHDAY AND I AM NOT REFLECTING ON THOSE THINGS RIGHT NOW BECAUSE IT WOULD JUST BE QUITE HUMBLING STACKED UP YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND THOSE OF MANY PEOPLE IN THIS ROOM TODAY. AS MANY OF YOU ARE NO DOUBT AWARE, STEVE ACHIEVED THE RANK OF MAJOR GENERAL IN THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES, WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL CANADIAN TROOPS IN AFGHANISTAN FROM 2005 TO 2006, WAS COMMANDER OF CANADIAN OPERATIONAL SUPPORT COMMAND, AND WAS COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE CANADIAN FORCES WARFARE CENTRE. SON RÔLE ACTUEL DANS LE SECTEUR PRIVÉ CONSISTE À FACILITER L’ÉLABORATION DES PROGRAMMES D’APPROVISIONNEMENT, UN RÔLE POUR LEQUEL, VOUS CONVIENDREZ AVEC MOI, IL EST HAUTEMENT QUALIFIÉ. THANK YOU, STEVE, FOR YOUR WORK IN FACILITATING THIS ARMY OUTLOOK.

I AM PLEASED TO WELCOME ALL OF YOU HERE TODAY. TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE MET ME DURING MY FIRST SIX MONTHS AT CADSI, YOU KNOW THAT I AM, FOR ALL INTENTS AND PURPOSES, ON A MISSION. A MISSION ON BEHALF OF THE DEFENCE AND SECURITY INDUSTRIES IN THIS COUNTRY THAT CREATE EQUIPMENT AND DELIVER SERVICES THAT ARE ESSENTIAL FOR MEMBERS OF THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES TO DO THEIR JOBS. www.defenceandsecurity.ca March 30, 2015

LAST YEAR, NATIONAL DEFENCE PUBLISHED THE DEFENCE ACQUISITION GUIDE THAT PROVIDES GREATER TRANSPARENCY ON POTENTIAL DEFENCE CAPABILITY REQUIREMENTS OF THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES OVER THE NEXT 2O YEARS. LE GUIDE EST UNE PARTIE UTILE ET IMPORTANTE DE LA STRATÉGIE D’APPROVISIONNENT GLOBALE EN MATIÈRE DE DÉFENSE QUI A ÉTÉ ANNONCÉE IL Y A PLUS D’UN AN.
FOR ARMY LAND SYSTEMS, THE DAG IDENTIFIES MORE THAN 60 CAPABILITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS RANGING FROM LAND EQUIPMENT UPGRADES TO LAND VEHICLE CREW TRAINING SYSTEMS TO ARMOURED COMBAT SUPPORT VEHICLES.

FOR THE CANADIAN DEFENCE AND SECURITY INDUSTRIAL SECTOR, THESE PROJECTS PRESENT OPPORTUNITIES. WITH THE TRANSPARENCY AND PREDICTABILITY THAT THE DEFENCE ACQUISITION GUIDE BRINGS TO THE PROCUREMENT PROCESS – DISCERNING THE SIGNAL FROM THE NOISE – INDUSTRY CAN BETTER FOCUS ON PUTTING FORWARD THEIR BEST PLANS TO PARTNER WITH AND AMONGST CANADIANS IN WAYS THAT PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT AND TIMELY DELIVERY OF SOPHISTICATED CAPABILITIES IN CANADA. WE DO BELIEVE THAT A STRONG, INNOVATIVE AND VIABLE DEFENCE INDUSTRY IS ESSENTIAL TO CANADA’S ECONOMY, SECURITY AND SOVEREIGNTY.

NOUS AVONS LA CHANCE D’AVOIR AVEC NOUS AUJOURD’HUI LE LIEUTENANT-GÉNÉRAL MARQUIS HAINES, COMMANDANT DE L’ARMÉE CANADIENNE, POUR NOUS FAIRE PART DE SA VISION DE L’ARMÉE DU DEMAIN, AS WELL AS BRIGADIER GENERAL KENNEDY AND COLONEL IVEY FROM THE ARMY’S LAND EQUIPMENT PROGRAM. WE WILL ALSO BE HEARING FROM DR. GUY VÈZINA, DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF DEFENCE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CANADA AND SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR TO THE CANADIAN ARMY. I TRUST THAT THE PRESENTATIONS, DISCUSSIONS AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES TODAY WILL BE HELPFUL AND PROFITABLE.

THANK YOU AND ENJOY THE DAY.
