Calian Offers Scalable and Affordable Emergency Management Solutions for Large and Small Municipalities

OTTAWA, Feb. 06, 2018 -- Calian Group Ltd. (TSX:CGY) is pleased to report that its Emergency Management team has developed a fully integrated emergency management service offering for large and small municipalities.

Leveraging more than 20 years of experience in the design and delivery of large, complex emergency management solutions, and conducting training exercises in a synthetic environment for the military through the Canadian Army Simulation Centre, Calian is now providing scalable, affordable solutions to small and large municipalities.

Calian Emergency Management solutions are scalable to the needs of small and large communities and come with advanced tools such as true-to-life, advanced social media simulation during an exercise. Calian Emergency Management solutions have already been offered to customers including the City of Ottawa, the City of Whitehorse, the City of Nanaimo, the City of Kingston, the City of Burlington and Ottawa Fire Services.

"We are now delivering quality and affordable emergency management solutions that allow customers at all levels to become more resilient to a range of hazards and risks," said Jerry Johnston, Vice President, Training & Engineering Services, Calian Group. "Our offerings are affordable, flexible, interactive and scalable – and include service options within the key pillars of prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. As communities and organizations face more challenging and complex threats than ever, these emergency management capabilities are critical."

Calian’s solutions help customers develop effective response plans for a range of events and incidents. The company offers highly realistic training exercises that allow teams and units to practice their anticipated actions in response to a simulated emergency or disruption. Organizations receive an evaluation, ensuring they identify areas for improvement and capture key learnings and necessary corrective actions.

The company’s offerings include a proprietary social media simulation platform, allowing customers to experience true-to-life social media communications during an exercise. The world-class software tool was developed by Ottawa-based International Safety Research Inc. (ISR), acquired by Calian last year.

“I am very excited to see the Calian Emergency Management team expand our solutions and offer these out-of-the-box exercises, providing affordable access to our solutions for communities of all sizes,” said Kevin Ford, President and CEO of Calian. “Emergency management is part of the Calian DNA. Having run large emergency management training programs for the Olympics and nuclear power facilities, we’re proud to be able to extend this expertise to smaller organizations.”
