L-3 MAPPS Awarded the IPMS Implementation Subcontract for the

Royal Canadian Navy’s Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship Project

MONTREAL, September 16, 2015 – L-3 MAPPS announced today that it has been awarded the Implementation Subcontract by Irving Shipbuilding Inc. for the supply of the Integrated Platform Management System for the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) new class of Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS).

L-3 employs approximately 2,100 employees across Canada, with a team of more than 200 dedicated professionals at L-3 MAPPS’ Montreal facility. L-3 MAPPS is one of AOPS Prime Contractor Irving Shipbuilding’s Tier 1 suppliers for delivering the AOPS vessels as part of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS). Under this contract, L-3 MAPPS will complete the design work undertaken during the earlier project definition phase to build, integrate, test and deliver a modern IPMS for the new vessels.

The L-3 MAPPS IPMS provides comprehensive monitoring and control of a ship’s propulsion, electrical, ancillary, auxiliary and damage control machinery systems. With advanced functionality, such as the Battle Damage Control System, Onboard Team Training System, Equipment Health Monitoring System and CCTV, as well as integration with the ship’s combat management and navigation systems, the IPMS allows the crew to safely and effectively operate the ship for all mission requirements. L-3 MAPPS’ technology is used by 18 navies worldwide and is installed on most of the RCN’s major warships and submarines.

AOPS is a Government of Canada procurement project for the RCN. The project will equip the Canadian Forces with six naval ice-capable offshore patrol ships able to assert and enforce sovereignty in Canada’s waters where and when necessary, including the Arctic. The ships will conduct missions for northern surveillance, search and rescue, and interoperation with the Canadian Forces and other government organizations. The first Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship is scheduled to be delivered in 2018.
